Jeter’s jersey is also the top-selling baseball jersey of all time and it makes him the most merchandised athlete in a single season in sports history. Sometimes with athletes there’s always a feeling that they will make a comeback but for the Captain it seems that this is his final season and fans have responded.
The list is based on Majestic jersey sales from MLB.com since the All-Star Break. The top 20 includes just two pitchers but a high of nine infielders.
The list is also indicative of the tide changing in baseball and the newest crop of young players are rising to make names for themselves. Adam Jones, Jonathan Lucroy, and Anthony Rendon make the top 20 for the first time. Manny Machado, Anthony Rizzo, Trout, Puig, and Rendon are all under 25 so the future of the MLB looks promising.
