On Wednesday, Jeter spoke in front of an audience of over 5,000 people at Hamilton College in upstate New York, and the Yankee legend revealed that he was easily able to avoid follow-up questions from the media by using one simple answer.

From the New York Daily News:

Jeter, arguably one of the most popular baseball players of the past two decades, rarely provided a buzzworthy sound byte, despite being featured in numerous advertisements and on the covers of various magazines.

But when it comes to the media asking for his opinion, he had a simple answer.

Jeter came off as boring, but that was the plan. He did not want to come off as disruptive or as a distraction.

“It was simple to me, if I don’t know something, I don’t know.”

Clearly, his plan worked.
