McKillop played high school ball in Menola and in college a few miles down the road at Hofstra. Then he got his first head coaching gig five miles east at Holy Trinity High in 1972. After five state titles at Long Island Lutheran from 1979-89, McKillop made the leap to college when he was hired by Davidson.

More than 25 years later, McKillop has a 496-300 record with the Wildcats and 10 conference coach of the year awards. He’s brought the mid-major program to the NCAA Tournament eight times, including an Elite Eight run in 2008 with Stephen Curry.
