Winnik was alert and moving after his exit, according to the Leafs; he’d gone airborne, flipped and hit his head after an open-ice hit by Avalanche defenseman Jan Hejda. Winnik chipped the puck along the boards a split-second earlier.
Winnik, 29, has been an effective bottom-six forward for years. Hopefully he gets back to work soon.
