Kayleigh McEnany, Alyssa Farah and Nick Luna were all promoted to assistant to the president. Dr. John Fleming will be promoted to assistant to the president for planning and implementation.

“Dan’s elevation is no surprise, he’s been a steady force by the president’s side since the campaign and his communication skills are undeniable,” the official told Newsweek.

Maggie Haberman, White House correspondent for The New York Times, first broke news of the promotions on a Tuesday morning tweet.

Scavino’s relationship with Trump goes back well before the real estate mogul made a bid for the White House. Scavino became executive vice president of Trump National Golf Club in Westchester in 2008 and was tapped to head Trump’s social media campaign in February 2016.

After winning the election, Trump tapped Scavino to be director of social media and he was promoted to senior advisor for digital strategy in April 2019. He’s also been serving as assistant to the president.

Trump acknowledged Scavino’s skills during an interview with Politico in May 2019. The president credited Scavino with being a “very good sounding board” and having a “good grasp.” Former press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders added that Scavino has a “knack for phrasing things in a way that can drive news cycles.

“Corporations pay people millions of dollars to break through on social media like that,” Sanders told Politico.

Trump appointed Luna to the role of deputy assistant to the president for operations and personal aide to the president in February 2019. Farah’s resume includes a variety of roles within the administration, a career that began as Vice President Mike Pence’s press secretary and special assistant to Trump.

After leaving the White House, Farah served as deputy assistant to the secretary of defense for media affairs and the press secretary for the Department of Defense. She returned to the White House following an April 8 appointment to Director of Strategic Communications.

The same day Trump announced Farah’s return to the White House staff, he announced McEnany would be joining the administration as press secretary. Both McEnany and Farah will continue serving their current roles, as well as, being promoted to assistant to the president.

Before her role at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, McEnany served as the national press secretary for Trump’s re-election campaign.

“We were sorry to lose her, but if she’s going to go anywhere the White House is where she should go,” Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh told Politico. “We are all part of the president’s team.”

The White House confirmed the promotions in an announcement on Tuesday afternoon.
