Dale Earnhardt Jr. took his recovery from concussion-like symptoms to Instagram on Thursday. It was less thrilling than an infomercial except to legions of Earnhardt fans.

The best news after viewing the images? Junior appears to be healthy. And that raises the possibility he will announce his return to racing ahead of Aug. 28’s race at Michigan. Look for that Tuesday or Wednesday.

For now, take a look at what Earnhardt does in his recovery process. It’s good to see a smile on his face.

Earnhardt has not driven his No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy since early July. Alex Bowman drove one race before Jeff Gordon came out of retirement to take over. Gordon might be in the car for the final time on Aug. 20 at Bristol.

If he is good to go at Michigan, Earnhardt will have three races before the Chase for the Sprint Cup field is set. He is expected to get an eligibility waiver, which NASCAR gave to Tony Stewart this year and Kyle Busch last year.

Junior’s biggest obstacle, however, will be winning, whether at Michigan, Darlington or Richmond, to fulfill Chase requirements. It is doubtful he will have the points required to make the 16-driver, 10-race competition.
