Matchups are always important, but today that loom a little larger than usual. The clear second-best pitcher is Zack Greinke, but he’s pitching in Colorado, which is why we knock him down a few spots. Meanwhile, Mike Leake (at PHI) and Ervin Santana (vs. CWS) are both facing teams that rank in the bottom six in wRC+ vs. RHPs. Conversely, Brandon McCarthy (vs. NYM) and Sonny Gray (vs. HOU) are facing teams in the top six in that stat.

Alex Cobb hasn’t been particularly great this year, but he’s been better at home (3.27 ERA) while the Reds haven’t been as good away from Cincinnati (93 wRC+ on the road vs. 106 at home). Similarly, Francisco Liriano has had his struggled this year, but he’s facing a Rangers’ team that’s 28th in wRC+ vs. lefties. Fellow lefty Mike Montgomery is facing San Diego, who’s last in that stat, but it’s unclear just how many pitches he’ll be cleared to throw.

We have a full 15-game slate tonight, but I will be staying away from the Giants-Braves game due to weather. If things clear up, I like Buster Posey and Brandon Belt the best from the Giants and Matt Kemp from the Braves. There are plenty of great high-priced OF options tonight, but I used to playbook to highlight more mid- to value-priced targets tonight.

The game at Coors does not provide the highest projected team run totals today. Instead, we have the Yankees, Indians, and Blue Jays taking over those spots, with the Twins and Cards not far behind the Coors game.

Overall, there are only two games with game totals under nine runs currently, and that’s due to the large pitcher favorites Chris Sale and Brandon McCarthy. We are seeing plenty of runs in the majors this year coming from the long ball.  Over the weekend, we saw 153 HRs in 46 games, and last night we saw three different players go deep twice. Finally, the Blue Jays have 95 homers this season, and their 56 percent of runs scored by the long ball will break the MLB record if they keep it up. They face Nick Martinez tonight, who has allowed 13 so far this season.  Good luck! – Ben Scherr
