Fortunately, there are other good options. Jake Odorizzi gets a nice home matchup against the Royals, and while he might not be “as good” as Zack Greinke or Gerrit Cole, the fact they’re facing each other in a tough pitchers environment in Arizona gives Odorizzi a slight edge. Unfortunately, he’s playing in one of the two day games, so he might not be a feasible option. Marco Estrada, Michael Fulmer, and Dylan Bundy also look good, though strikeouts are a bit of an issue for the latter two.

If you’re hunting for big-K, boom-or-bust types for GPPs, Michael Pineda fits the bill. He has a tough matchup and is going opposite Keuchel, which will probably scare some people away, but he can mow down any lineup when he’s on. JC Ramirez is somewhat similar. He doesn’t quite have the strikeout upside of Pineda, but his 8.8 K/9 ratio this year is solid, and he might be low-owned going against the Tigers and Michael Fulmer.

No team ion Thursday’s slate is a heavy Vegas favorite, which makes choosing pitchers for cash games a bit tricky. I’m still going to hunt wins, obviously, but the safest pitchers will be the ones who go deep into games and rack up strikeouts. The eight worst teams in baseball in wOBA all play Thursday, so while there aren’t many stud pitchers to choose from, there are plenty of nice matchups and value plays.

Unless there is some unexpected value once the lineups come out, I think I am either paying up at catcher or punting it. Paying for the top guys shouldn’t be a problem since there isn’t much reason to pay for pitching, but catcher is almost always a good place to save some money, and Thursday is no exception. The other position where you can try to save is the outfield. I have included value options at the other positions, but for the most part, I will pay up in the infield. – Steve Pimental
