The Tigers, Yankees, Cubs, Padres and Rockies will be popular stacks during the early evening slate. For the late slate, the Marlins, D-backs, Indians and Mariners are great places to go for value picks and stacks.

EARLY EVENING GAMES

Red = 1B; Orange = 2B; Yellow = 3B; Green = SS; Blue = OF; Purple = C

The Tigers have a bunch of guys who usually crush lefties (2B Ian Kinsler, catcher Victor Martinez, OF J.D. Martinez, catcher James McCann, 1B Miguel Cabrera, 3B Nick Castellanos), so you can put together a nice stack today against CC Sabathia.

Since the start of last season, Mike Pelfrey has allowed a .874 OPS on the road and an .854 OPS to lefties. The Yankees can throw out a lineup almost exclusively filled with lefties (OF Jacoby Ellsbury, OF Brett Gardner, OF Carlos Beltran, catcher Brian McCann, etc.), so there should be a lot of runs to go around.

Michael Wacha usually dominates lefties (.218/.288/.325 career line), but in limited at-bats against him, OF Gregory Polanco is 7-for-17 with two doubles and a triple. We’re still not huge fans of Polanco today, but OF Andrew McCutchen, who’s 12-for-22 with four extra-base hits against Wacha, is a good bet.

Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter (9-for-24, three HRs) and OF Matt Holliday (7-for-18, two doubles) have both had a decent amount of success against Gerrit Cole.

Kevin Gausman has noticeably different splits against lefties (.235/.295/.358) and righties (.272/.315/.467) since the start of 2014, so recalibrate your view of Blue Jays hitters tonight, giving a little less consideration to OF Michael Saunders.

In 153.1 career innings, Lance McCullers has limited lefties to a .215/.288/.318 line. Don’t overpay for OF Corey Dickerson and SS Brad Miller.

You can feel free to stack any and all Cubs against Bud Norris, but keep in mind that he’s been even worse against lefties the past two seasons (.296/.380/.538). Guys like 1B Anthony Rizzo, OF Jason Heyward, and catcher Miguel Montero have even more value today.

We normally don’t recommend any players against Chris Sale, but OF Lorenzo Cain is 14-for-46 with three homers and four doubles and SS Alcides Escobar is 21-for-56 with three XBHs against him. If you’re going to take a chance, you might as well go with them.

It should come as no surprise that Jon Gray has much different numbers at home (.339/.394/.559) in his 93-inning career, and lefties have hit him especially hard in Colorado (.370/.433/.625). Padres 1B Brett Wallace, OF Jon Jay, and 2B Yangervis Solarte are all decent plays today.

LATE EVENING GAMES

Red = 1B; Orange = 2B; Yellow = 3B; Green = SS; Blue = OF; Purple = C

Marlins OFs Marcell Ozuna (1.332 OPS) and Giancarlo Stanton (.850) are both hitting well against lefties this year, as per usual, and 3B Martin Prado (.897) is also putting up nice numbers against southpaws. All three have more value than usual against Patrick Corbin, and you can even try to sneak OF Christian Yelich into your lineup. Since the start of 2014, he has a .305/.369/.399 line against LHPs.

D-backs catcher Welington Castillo (1.090 OPS) and OF Yasmany Tomas (1.028) are among the best hitters against lefties this year, and 1B Paul Goldschmidt (1.023) has been among the best active hitters against LHPs over the course of his career. Don’t be afraid to stack all three against Justin Nicolino.

Indians 1B Mike Napoli (.911 career OPS; .810 this year) and SS Francisco Lindor (.884) are still great bets against lefties like Hector Santiago, and OF Rajai Davis also has more upside against southpaws.

Hisashi Iwakuma has good career numbers against most Rangers, especially SS Elvis Andrus (9-for-42, nine Ks), OF Ian Desmond (0-for-11), and 1B Mitch Moreland (7-for-35, eight Ks).

Don’t worry about the lefty-lefty splits with 2B Robinson Cano against Derek Holland. Cano is 16-for-43 with five XBHs in his career against him. The Mariners also have a bunch of lefty-killers, like OF Nelson Cruz, catcher Chris Iannetta, and OF Franklin Gutierrez, all of whom have career OPS’s north of .838 against LHPs.

You’re probably not planning on using any Giants against Clayton Kershaw, but just in case, don’t bother with 1B Brandon Belt (3-for-43, 23 Ks), SS Brandon Crawford (1-for-21, nine Ks), or catcher Buster Posey (18-for-82 with 16 Ks).
