Saves Sleepers

A night after Brad Boxberger was rocked for four runs in just two-thirds of an inning, Brandon Gomes was called on to protect a three-run lead in the ninth inning for the Rays. Gomes worked around a two-out single to retire the side. It seems unlikely that the Rays will strip Boxberger of his closer duties this late in the year, but he only threw 16 pitches on Monday, so it’s not as if he should’ve been unavailable for Tuesday’s game. Boxberger is still the front-runner for the Rays’ next save chance, but Gomes is obviously a candidate, too.

Weather Watch

There are no significant threats of rain Wednesday, so it should be a clear day for baseball.
