This weekend, London and Hughley were both at the chic restaurant Nobu; Hughley dining with his family, London celebrating the birthday of a friend. London first shared the encounter in his Instagram Story, which was then archived by the Instagram account, The Jasmine Brand.
In the video, London walks into the restaurant and sees Hughley with his family at a table. After a couple cuts, set to the Chief Keef song “Faneto,” he approaches Hughley on the way to the bathroom. Next, London captioned an additional photo of the comedian “LMAO. I told him to apologize on camera for doing that dumb Vlad interview and his people called security.”
On Monday, Hughley responded on his Instagram, sharing the “apologize on camera” photo and a clip of London’s walking by his table. In his post, he clarifies that it was the restaurant’s security team, not the comedian’s, who intervened.
“WHO??? Who TF is THEODORE HUXTABLE and WHY IS HE VIDEOBOMBING my table while I’m having dinner with friends and family?? These new cats are built WAY DIFFERENT [facepalm emoji] Where do you draw the line on clout chasing?? I would say: taking a video in the bathroom at @noburestaurants while another man has his [eggplant emoji] out!!” Hughley wrote in the caption.
“Security was doing their job keeping the clout chasers away from the guests TRYING to enjoy their dinner. CONGRATULATIONS [clapping hands emoji] YOU PLAYED YOURSELF!! @j.vega934 WHEN ARE THEY GONNA LEARN TO STOP COMING FOR ME?? #TeamDL #idontknowyou #youplayedyourself #wedontbelieveyouyouneedmorepeople #forthegram #gonewrong #thisaintitchief,” Hughley continued in the caption, before reposting an alternate version of his first paragraph.
Hughley also spoke to VladTV about the incident, saying that their interaction was brief and not serious. Hughley said London kept walking past his table, and when Hughley went up to use the restroom, he saw London. He says London greeted him with “What’s up, OG,” before asking him to “make it right” with West. Hughley responded that West “needs to make it right,” and that was it.
Shortly after Hughley’s Instagram post, London replied with his own, asking “Who is the current king of comedy ? Is it me?!”
“just to clear the air pls swipe,” he continued. “Regardless of my humor on what’s real or not this is the internet aka fast food entertainment. U can cancel a [n-word] , but u can’t cancel the culture .”
He ended his caption by ribbing Hughley’s use of the eggplant emoji, telling him not to use it “too much,” adding “This is the best time to call Netflix. #15mins”.
London attached a longer video of his interaction with Hughley. In it, the two greet each other jovially and London tells Hughley “You’re a king of comedy, clean that up,” referring to the beef with West. The post also includes a clip of London at West’s March 13 Sunday Service.
Hughley and West have been having beef since Hughley’s comments last week on VladTV, where he said that West’s handling of the relationship between Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson and West’s estranged ex-wife Kim Kardashian has “never been funny.”
“The difference between him and the other dude who would get a restraining order on them is hundreds of millions of dollars,” Hughley said in a recent interview with VladTV.
“I think that I’ve watched too many times when things like that happened and a woman or somebody is not believed. And then things escalate,” Hughley continued. “He is stalking her. You can think it’s cute. If it was my daughter, I’d do something about it. I don’t think it’s funny. I think that you can’t write a beat so good that you get to do these things. And society laughs it off because they say, ‘Well, she’s showing her a** all the time and he’s this and he’s that.’”
“The difference between him and a restraining order is about 20 hits and a couple of hundred million dollars. I just don’t think it’s funny,” Hughley concluded.
The interview was recorded before West released his “Eazy” video, which featured him burying and decapitating a clay animated representation of Davidson.
