Tebow took the opposite path, opting to play football (which probably was the wiser choice) instead of baseball. But now that his NFL career has been killed, Tebow is trying to start a baseball career at the relatively late age of 29.

The former Heisman-winning quarterback held a baseball workout for MLB teams. Szczur wasn’t in attendance, but he did watch it on TV, and provided some thoughts to the Chicago Tribune.

Szczur brings up a great point, because there is an age at which players start to hit a drop in production. Research by The Hardball Times determined that players peak at around age 27-28, decline gradually to around 35, and then decline a lot faster after that.

“And being away from the game that long? What’s it take on average for a player to make it to the big leagues? Four years? Five years?

“And that’s if you ever make it to the big leagues. So if he makes it to the big leagues at 34, 35? Then what?”

So Tebow would basically be making the league at the age where baseball players start to drop off, assuming he even has what it takes to make the big leagues. That may scare off some teams, but the Braves have expressed some interest in the former NFL QB.
