“Bottle Rocket” is an underdog. It might not have been made if executive producer James L. Brooks (“Broadcast News”) hadn’t been knocked out by Anderson’s original 13-minute short. The movie has a meandering second half. But Wilson, who co-wrote the screenplay with Anderson, does a hilarious, Dennis Hopper-ish turn as Dignan, and the giddiness of the production will give you a contact high, if your funny bone is the right size and shape. Dignan and company may never be great partners in crime, but Anderson and Wilson already are.
