The 2011 winners clinched a third consecutive semi-final appearance with a game to spare after beating Bangladesh on Tuesday. India currently sits second in the table, one point behind Australia.
India will overtake the five-time champions if it beats Sri Lanka and Australia fails to overcome South Africa on Saturday.
Finishing top of the group would mean playing New Zealand in the semi-finals, while failing to do so would see India take on England at Edgbaston, the same ground where it lost to the hosts on Sunday.
The defeat was India’s first reverse of the tournament. Virat Kohli’s men have qualified for the semi-finals at a canter, even though they have never quite managed to hit top gear.
With four centuries to his name, Rohit Sharma has staked a strong claim for player of the tournament, but India’s middle order has been wobbly and former captain MS Dhoni looks out of sort.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, has won three of the six games it has played and while it has been frustratingly inconsistent, the win against England showed on its day the 1996 winners can beat anyone.
While any hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals are already dead and buried, Sri Lanka will be looking to bow out of the World Cup on a high.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday.
When and where is the game?
Sri Lanka takes on India at Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds on Saturday, July 3, with play scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. local time (5:30 a.m. ET).
TV channel and live stream
The game will be broadcast in the U.S. by Willow TV and Hotstar, with a live stream available via Sling TV.
The latter is one of the official partners of Willow TV and is available across various platforms such as Apple TV, iOS, Android TV, XBOX, Chrome TV, Fire TV and Roku.
Match odds
To nobody’s surprise India enters its final group stage as the heavy favorite at 1/6, while Sri Lanka is a 5/1 outsider.
According to Oddschecker, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are both 9/2 to be the top-scoring batsman in the game.
The former already has three centuries to his name in this World Cup, while the Indian captain is yet to reach three figures in the tournament.
Form
Rohit Sharma arrives into the game with history firmly in his sight. India’s opening batsman has already scored four centuries at this World Cup and could become the first player in the history of the tournament to notch five tons in the same World Cup.
The 30-year-old averages a staggering 90.66 runs per innings and has amassed 544 runs at this tournament, putting him on track to potentially surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time record of 673 runs in the 2003 World Cup.
With India having a further two games to play after they face Sri Lanka, Sharma has the chance to rewrite the history books.
