The drone was carrying a TV camera for NBC Sports’ broadcast when it crashed. If small pieces of the drone hit Hirscher, he didn’t give any indication.

Later, the Austrian was able to poke fun at the situation, posting a picture of the falling drone on his Instagram page with the caption, “Heavy air traffic in Italy #crazy #drone #crash #luckyme.”

Hirscher finished the race second behind Henrik Kristoffersen of Norway.
