An Emory University study has declared that the Cowboys have the “best” fans in the NFL. There’s no way around the subjectivity of a label like that, but the authors say their use of a series of hard data “focused on market outcomes like attendance, prices or revenues” adds some scientific oomph to their findings.

Here’s a bit more on the methodology behind the rankings:

Mix all those elements together and the Cowboys’ strong tradition, devoted supporters and money-printing stadium help put Dallas on top. The next four best fan bases, according to the study, are those of the Patriots, Giants, Ravens and Jets.

Bringing up the rear, from 28th to 32nd, are the Bills, Jaguars, Raiders, Browns and Dolphins.

Perhaps the most surprising result is the Seahawks landing at 26th, but the survey’s model of 15 years’ worth of data probably hurts Seattle. If it was the last five years, the Seahawks would probably rank near the top.
