Brad Sigmon and Freddie Owens are scheduled to die in June, in what would be South Carolina’s first executions in a decade under the state’s recently revamped death penalty law. Sigmon, 63, was sentenced to death after being convicted in 2002 of killing his ex-girlfriend’s parents with a baseball bat. Owens, 43, was handed a death sentence for the 1997 murder of of a convenience store clerk during an armed robbery....
U.K. Astronomer Royal Martin Rees said that in future, some people may decide to leave Earth in order to live on other worlds. Governor John Carney, a Democrat, signed a bill to raise the state’s $9.25 minimum wage by more than $1 each year through 2025. According to NBC 10 News in Boston, Gina Sheldon recently took an 11-day trip to Italy, where she purchased numerous Christmas gifts for family and friends. Sheldon then stopped in Paris for a few days before returning home through Boston’s Logan International Airport. Sheldon told NBC 10 that she purchased a new suitcase just to hold the presents she bought. “I couldn’t wait to get home and for the holidays to come,” she said....
