Beginning in November, unvaccinated employees enrolled in Delta’s health care plan will face a $200 monthly surcharge, which the airline says is “necessary to address the financial risk the decision to not vaccinate is creating for our company.” Unlike other companies, including United Airlines, Delta has chosen not to mandate vaccines for employees. Delta said the $200 fine was calculated based on the average hospital stay for COVID-19 patients, which has cost the company $40,000 per employee....

A new study by JAMA Network Open found that international nonprofit Aid Access recorded an average of 29.5 requests for abortion pills per month in the state after September 2021, when Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed the bill into law. The study says that the near-total ban on abortion in the state resulted in an increased need for the pills. “Although we cannot pinpoint the exact reason for this distinctive pattern,” wrote the study authors, “uncertainty about eligibility and clinic appointment cancellations may have been associated with the peak increase, whereas grassroots abortion funds and clinics connecting Texans with care out of state likely were associated with the subsequent decrease....

Republican Ohio Senator Rob Portman countered with an offer of $300 payments through July 18. West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin was blamed for the slowdown as he initially backed Portman’s plan....

McCarthy put forward GOP Congressmen Jim Jordan of Ohio and Jim Banks of Indiana, but Pelosi opted to block their inclusion. Both men are staunch supporters of former President Donald Trump. Pelosi and others have defended the decision, claiming that the inclusion of the lawmakers would cause the committee’s work to devolve into political drama. On Sunday, Democratic Congressman David Cicilline of Rhode Island accused McCarthy of attempting to turn the committee “into a circus of people that promoted the Big Lie,” referring to Trump’s claims of massive election fraud....

According to a document circulated to a number of news outlets, the taxes could include a levy on stock buybacks where a company repurchases shares it originally placed on the market. The move could also reduce corporate deductions on the compensation of CEOs and impose further taxes on companies whose payment to executives exceeds the average worker pay by a certain ratio.
